Power Tools and Sewing

People often ask about my still life paintings and what they are about. They are really a response to limiting beliefs and comments I receive as a woman. The work is about gender stereotypes that shouldn't exist. As a child, I enjoyed sports, dolls, boxing gloves, cars and unicorns. I was always encouraged to play with whatever I wanted regardless of my gender. My mom loved to sew but she also remodeled our homes. On the weekends, she was always engaged in some home improvement project such as knocking down a wall or replacing a sink. Gender never had limitations in our household. I wasn't exposed to gender stereotypes until I became an adult.
